The Mac vs. PC debate has been stewing for as long as the two have existed, but is one really better than the other? As a graphic designer which should I use?
Why Use Mac?
For a long time, Mac was really the only option for graphic designers. Photoshop, and digital typography were both born on Mac computers, and even though Windows based PCs followed suit afterward, many designers were tied to Apple’s platform, simply because it had been around for a great deal more time.
Even though the gap has pretty much been closed, people still linger on Apple’s ecosystem for the following reasons:
- Seamless integration with other Apple products (iPhone, iPad)
- Specific Hardware with great support.
Why Use Windows?
Even though Apple computers were the standard back in the day, more and more designers are adopting Windows PCs for many reasons:
- More software options
- Easily upgradable hardware
- OS support for multiple video cards/more hardware
- Around 90% of your clients will also use Windows
- Significantly lower cost
All in all, it does come down to personal preference, and although I do agree with the facts stated, I am a Windows guy. As a broke college student, Mac will never be a viable option because the cost of the hardware does not match its performance per dollar compared to a PC. If you have the money to spend, and you are already in the Apple ecosystem, choose Mac, but if you need the best bang for your buck, Windows is probably for you.
What do you think? PC or Mac? (Linux???)
